Better sanitary measures would boost poultry production in Mexico this year: USDA

From the USDA they predicted that throughout 2020 Mexico will open more markets for chicken meat in the continent, as well as in regions of Africa and Asia.

According to estimates by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), by the end of this year, Mexican chicken meat processing could exceed 3% compared to 2019, thanks to the reinforced health measures implemented in the production units.

In total, the sector would reach 3.7 million tons of this protein, a situation that would also be driven by the use of new and better technologies in poultry farms in our country.

Together, this would also lead to international shipments of up to 7,000 tons of this meat, the main destinations would be located in Southeast Asia, Latin America and the United States.

Additionally, joint work between producers and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) for the activation and certification of Federal Inspection Type (TIF) plants would benefit this item, being able to position this protein even in African countries throughout 2020 .

As for local consumption, in the US institution they expect it to maintain an upward trend this year, as more and more Mexicans will change the intake of pork or beef to poultry meat.

However, they clarified that according to their data, production is enough to cover 80% of the national intake, so the rest must be complemented through imports.

In this sense, from the National Poultry Farmers Union (UNA) they have stated on previous occasions that Mexican activity has the capacity to fully meet local demand, and even to export.
