Texas seeking input on fruit, vegetable safety

The Texas Department of Agriculture will hold a series of community meetings to collect input on implementing a new federal law to promote the safety of fruits and vegetables grown across the country.

The meetings will serve as a forum to gather public input as TDA develops the rules to administer the new federal mandate.

The closest Produce Safety Administrative Rule development meetings will be in:

Lubbock, from 10 a.m.-noon May 1 at the AgriLife Extension office, 1102 E. FM 1294
Fort Worth, from 10 a.m.-noon May 2 at the Hampton Inn, 2700 Green Oaks Road.
Those planning to attend are asked to email ProduceSafety@TexasAgriculture.gov with the location and number of people.

Pesticide applicator training in San Angelo

A Private Pesticide Applicator Training is scheduled for Friday in the Vincent Building on the Angelo State University campus. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the training will be from 1 to 5 p.m.
The training is specifically for those seeking a Texas Department of Agriculture private applicator license, said Josh Blanek, Tom Green County agriculture agent.

Registration is $50, due upon arrival. Preregistration is required. To preregister or for information, call Blanek at 325-659-6522.

Land stewardship conference scheduled

How to make the most of limited rainfall not only to grow forage but also to water livestock and wildlife in a semi-arid climate will be among several topics discussed May 3-4 during the Bennett Trust Land Stewardship Conference at the McNease Convention Center in San Angelo.

The conference is funded by the Ruth and Eskel Bennett Endowment and hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Cost of the two-day conference is $75, which includes all training materials and meals.
